This essential oil is a clear transparent off-white liquid with extremely smooth,woody, santalol rich balsamic aroma. It is the closest in its technical properties to the traditional Indian Sandalwood Oil (Santalum Album) with together Alpha –Beta Santalol content upto 80%. Indeed, Tisserand & Young state in their book, Essential Oil Safety, that New Caledonian Sandalwood Oil "is the closest to East Indian Sandalwood (Santalum album) in terms of both composition and aroma." Due to its natural proximity to Indian Sandalwood species, it has made its relevant space with perfumers and many enduring fragrance houses globally.
